Two new fires reported

the MNR

Two new fires were confirmed in the West Fire Region by yesterday evening.
Red Lake Fire #38 is located northwest of the community of Sandy Lake, in the far northern portions of Red Lake District.
A second fire, also in Red Lake District, is located west of the community of Keewaywin in the far north.
Two crew members currently are checking the status of Red Lake Fire #38 via floatplane. The new report of a fire on an island in Sandy Lake also will be investigated.
Both fires are reported as lightning-caused.
Storm systems brought heavy rainfall across most of the West Fire Region over the weekend, resulting in a “low” fire hazard.
And more rain is in the forecast.
Nine fires are being monitored in the northern portions of the Sioux Lookout and Nipigon districts, in addition to the two new fires being investigated in Red Lake District.
As well, two active fires are receiving suppression in Nipigon District.
