One new fire was reported yesterday in the Northwest Region.
Nipigon Fire #34 was a human-caused blaze that ignited from industrial equipment.
Located about 35 km northwest of Nipigon, it currently is listed as “under control” at 0.1 hectares in size.
Meanwhile, two new human-caused blazes were confirmed in the region by day’s end Tuesday.
Kenora Fire #41 is located about four km south of the city.
FireRangers are assisting the Kenora fire department with sprinkler equipment while the department monitors a fire in the Rat Portage landfill site.
It was 0.1 ha in size, confined to the site, and listed as “under control.”
Thunder Bay Fire #30, about 45 km south of Armstrong, was a 0.1-ha blaze that is now “out.”
Fort Frances Fire #12, a lightning-caused blaze that started Monday about 40 km east of Atikokan, was declared “out” yesterday at 0.3 ha in size.
In related news, FireRanger crews from this region are joining firefighting efforts in the Northeast Region.
Three crews left yesterday with four more leaving today.
