Category:

During the night of April 27, members of the Rainy River District OPP conducted a traffic stop of a motor vehicle that had four occupants.

During the stop, it was learned the male driver was wanted on a warrant from the City of Winnipeg.

After the male was arrested, a subsequent investigation revealed all the occupants of the vehicle were in possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, a quantity of a drug suspected to be methamphetamine, and a quantity of cash.

Everyone in the vehicle was charged with multiple firearm and drug-trafficking related charges.

They included a 25-year-old male and a 34-year-old female, both of Winnipeg, as well as two Fort Frances females aged 28 and 35.

All four were held in custody pending a court appearance here scheduled for today.

The OPP Canine Unit and Community Street Crime Unit also assisted in the investigation.

Meanwhile, on the afternoon of April 12, members of the Rainy River District OPP responded to a 9-1-1 call in which a 15-year-old youth male assaulted someone known to him and stole their vehicle.

Police deployed a spike belt in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

The male drove the vehicle into a ditch and immediately was taken into custody.

No one, including the youth, was injured in this incident.

The male was charged with assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, theft of a motor vehicle, and driving a motor vehicle with no licence.

He will be brought before the Youth Ontario Court of Justice to answer to the charges.
