Three new fires reported

Category:

Three new fires were confirmed in the Northwest Region—all in Sioux Lookout District—by yesterday afternoon.

But more fire reports were being investigated, most likely caused by lightning from recent thunderstorms tracking across the region.

The forest fire hazard remains “low” in the southern sectors of the region but “moderate-high” in the far north.

Of the current active fires, Sioux Lookout Fire #13—located about 25 km northwest of Cat Lake—is listed as “under control” at 22 hectares in size.

FireRanger crews are working on suppressing this blaze.

Sioux Lookout Fire #14, meanwhile, is listed as “being observed” at 12 ha in size.

This lightning-caused blaze is located in a remote location in the far north.

But the latest three fires in Sioux Lookout District all were listed as “not under control” at last report.
