Residents benefit from memorial donations

Category:

Our monthly Rainycrest Auxiliary meeting was held on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

After having to forgo our October meeting due the home being closed because of illness, we had a lot of business to discuss.

The meeting started at 1:30 p.m. with our president, June Caul, leading us in our auxiliary prayer. There were 12 members present; we currently have 61 members with 12 life members.

The director of the Riverside Foundation for Health Care, Allison Cox, attended our meeting and was able to summarize the important monetary contributions that our auxiliary has made over the past year.

Items such as new mattresses, some dressers, night stands and comfortable chairs for the residents' rooms, new couches and chairs for the main lobby area as well as a hot food table to keep the residents' meals warm have been purchased by our auxiliary.

All of these contributions are made possible through the memorial donations made to the auxiliary in memory of a loved one.

These donations are used to improve the quality of life for all of the residents! Without memorial donations, these critical items simply couldn't be purchased.

Heather, Rainycrest's activation director, also attended our meeting and we were able to plan some of our December special events such as the birthday party, welcome party for new residents and the always-popular special Christmas party!

Santa will be making a special appearance on Dec. 3 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Community children and their parents are invited to come to Rainycrest and have their picture taken with Santa. (A professional photographer is donating her time!)

The residents really enjoy having children around especially during the holiday season. Any donations made will go directly to the auxiliary.

Heather also commented that the activation staff is working on setting up a “Man Cave" so the guys now have a place to go and "play.”

Joan Westover reported that she will be decorating the chapel for the Christmas season.

Diane Maxey said that the Resident's Choir has been busy practising and will be performing soon. She also stated that the ever-popular Fort Frances Choraliers will come to Rainycrest and perform their Christmas concert.

Laurel Halvorsen has the tuck shop all decorated for Christmas with many wonderful gift and decorating items. Now that our resident numbers are up, so are the visitors and the tuck shop is booming!

June Keddie, a long-time Rainycrest Auxiliary member, has been our Foundation representative for several years and has done an outstanding job representing our auxiliary.

Unfortunately, she has had to step down.

Allison Cox said that she will be greatly missed. Thanks, June, for all of your efforts!

The new administrator, Barbara Harten, attended our September meeting.

She has an excellent vision for Rainycrest, is very positive and really looking forward to improving all aspects of life at the home.

Barbara is committed to the residents, the staff and our auxiliary. We look forward to working with her!

Our auxiliary meets the second Wednesday of every month and we always welcome new members.

The Rainycrest Auxiliary would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and would like to remind everyone to be safe throughout the entire holiday season.
