Plenty of events to celebrate Canada Day

Category:

Canada's 150th birthday is this Saturday (July 1) and several district communities are making this a day full of festivities for all.

In Barwick, a pancake breakfast will kick things off at 9 a.m. at the church, followed by its annual Canada Day parade at noon and kids' games.

The always-popular fastball tournament will run Saturday and Sunday, with nine teams competing. So be sure to come out and enjoy some nail-biting action.

If you have any questions regarding the tournament, call Vaughan Wilson at 276-0139.

There also will be a beer garden and food canteen (Jen Libiak will be serving up her delicious menu).

Emo also will host a July 1 celebration, which will include a pancake breakfast from 8-11 a.m. at the Christian Reform Church (admission is free admission but free-will donations will be accepted for the food bank).

The kiddies' parade goes at 11 a.m., followed by plenty of other activities for all ages.

A fireworks display goes at dusk at the Emo Sport Field.

Live entertainment featuring music by The Night Hawks and Thinking of Pinky will go under the big tent.

Sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Randy Gerhard, who passed away unexpectedly earlier this month in Goshen, Ind.

He leaves in shock and deep sadness his wife, children, mother, and many other family members. Not to mention the many, many friends that he played such a vital part of their lives.

Our community is thinking of you all at this difficult time. Hopefully, you all can gain strength in knowing you have a community of friends and family behind you.

I was on holidays last week and without a doubt, one of the highlights of my week was visiting Rosella Galbraith.

We spent an afternoon sitting in her comfortable glider on the deck, then moved into her living room.

She once again talked about her “special memories” of bus driving. She always is an inspiration to me as she shines with the enthusiasm of a very wise woman. Her 96-and-a-half years have done her well.

I encourage anyone who remembers her (especially her kids from bus driving years) to stop and say hi. It will make her day but, more importantly, make yours, too.

A happy 80th birthday to Lois Caul for today (June 28).

She is another inspiration to all women: a hard worker, community person, and kind soul.

Robin's 2¢:

I'm great at multi-tasking. I can listen, ignore, and forget all at once!
