On Wednesday around 12:40 p.m., the OPP was advised of a plane crash that occurred around 11:35 p.m. on Tuesday about 60 km east of Marathon.
The crash site was located by the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre and search-and-rescue technicians.
The plane, described as a single-engine Cessna 172, was rented in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating the crash, with the assistance of the Marathon OPP detachment and the Northwest Region Emergency Response Team.
The OPP also has a helicopter on scene that has been deployed from Thunder Bay.
