Pair fined for travelling on closed road

Category:

Two Wisconsin men have been fined for travelling on a closed road.

Michael Miller of Eagle and George Miller of Eau Claire pleaded guilty and each were fined $750 for travelling on a closed road contrary to the Public Lands Act.

Court heard that in late May, 2017, conservation officers determined the two men had been fishing in the Brightsand River area about 140 km northwest of Thunder Bay.

Upon further investigation, officers determined the men travelled on the Brightsand Road on May 23 to access their fishing destination.

Brightsand Road is a forest access road that has been closed to public vehicular traffic to protect remote tourism operations in the area.

Justice of the Peace Danette Maslach heard the case June 27 in Thunder Bay.
