Pair of drivers charged

On Nov. 11 around 5:05 a.m., members of the Rainy River District OPP received a report of a motor-vehicle collision on Highway 11 at Manitou Rapids First Nation.

An officer attended the scene and spoke with the driver, soon suspecting that he had alcohol in his body.

The male was arrested and transported to the Fort Frances OPP detachment, where he underwent further testing.

As a result, a 24-year-old Whitefish Bay First Nation male was charged with driving a vehicle with a blood alcohol level over .08 mg

He was released on a promise to appear in court on Dec. 10 in Fort Frances.

On Nov. 10 around 2:10 a.m., a member of the Rainy River District OPP was conducting patrol in the area of Portage Avenue in Fort Frances when the officer observed a pick-up truck with no tail lights illuminated.

The officer tried to stop the truck in the area of Portage Avenue and Fifth Street East, however, the vehicle failed to stop for police.

Police eventually were able to stop the vehicle and speak with the driver.

Upon doing so, the officer suspected the driver had alcohol in his body.

He was arrested and transported to the Fort Frances detachment, where he underwent further testing.

A 43-year-old Alberton Township man subsequently was charged with driving a vehicle with a blood alcohol level over .08 mg and flight while pursued by a peace officer.

He was released on a promise to appear in court on Nov. 26 in Fort Frances.
