Fort Frances Legion Ladies Auxiliary to Br. #29 met on March 13 with 27 members in attendance.
The meeting was brought to order at 7:05 p.m. by president Alfreda Easton, followed by the minutes of the Feb. 13 general meeting and the March 6 executive meeting being read and approved.
The district meeting will be held April 5-6 in Rainy River, with the theme being “Through the Ages.”
Rooms have been booked and travel arrangements are in progress.
As well, the 49th-biennial Manitoba-Northwestern Ontario Legion convention is being held June 14-17 in Fort Frances.
Sponsorships are being sought for monetary donations and/or for items to be included in the delegate bags for the attendees.
Members are out canvassing local businesses for their support of this event that will bring 300-400 Legion members to Fort Frances to attend meetings.
If you can help with this canvassing, contact Christina at 271-4292. This is a big job and only can be accomplished with the help of volunteers.
A reminder that the auxiliary's next monthly supper—featuring a turkey dinner and all the trimmings—will be held on Friday, March 29 starting at 5:30 p.m. upstairs at the Legion (doors open at 4:30).
The cost is $16/plate.
In other news, the auxiliary has sponsored/supported the local air cadets' trip to Juno Beach planned for this June and the local warming centre by supplying one home-cooked meal per week.
It also has sponsored the RCL Ladies' Auxiliary provincial scholarships as well as Fort Frances High School's annual “chem-free” grad party.
The meeting was attended by District Commander Leslie Bell for her annual visit and update.
She brought to light the need to work together to continue the work and support we provide to our veterans, our community, and our fellow members. Always be kind.
The auxiliary also still is in need of a Ways and Means co-ordinator. If you can help out, contact Alfreda Easton at 274-9105. If you are able to take on a month or two, this is very helpful.
The March birthday was Maria Slusarchuk, with cards to Susan Neurinski, Josie Miller, and Sandy Pruys.
The 50/50 draw was won by Leslie Bell while Susan Neurinski won the attendance draw.
