Legion ladies meet

Press Release

The local Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary held its first meeting of the new year on Jan. 13.
It was great to see 34 members come out on such a cold evening.
The charter was draped in memory of Marie Bodnarchuk.
This month, we lost another very active member when Florence Hill passed away.
Florence and her sister, Jane McLeod, were well-known as the “pie ladies” at the auxiliary’s monthly suppers. They will be missed.
On a brighter note, Dorese Harrison was welcomed as a new member by auxiliary president Alfreda Easton.
A new event for members of the auxiliary also was announced. On the first Sunday of each month, there will be an afternoon of cards and games upstairs at the Legion.
The first one will be held on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. Members were urged to bring a guest and a snack (to share) for an afternoon of friendship and fun.
Yes, spring will come—and with it, the Legion ladies again are planning a dessert tea (watch for details).
The auxiliary’s next monthly supper will be held Friday, Jan. 29, with roast beef, salad, buns, potatoes, gravy, vegetables, and, as always, home-baked pies on the menu.
All for $15/plate.
Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Come in out of the cold and let the Legion ladies cook for you.
The auxiliary also is taking bookings for functions. There is a good variety of full meals available for large or small events.
For a complete menu and available bookings, call Leslie Bell at 486-0254.
A reminder that Vicki Jewell is the phone convener so please, when called upon, consider giving some time helping out with events that are booked.
The last early-bird membership draw was won by Maureen Ricard.
The attendance draw was won by Irene Laing while the birthday draw winner was Vicki Jewell.
A light lunch was served after the meeting and Bingo was played.
The auxiliary’s next regular meeting will be held Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Legion.
Any ladies interested in joining can contact Janet Lambert (274-2713) or Irene Laing (274-9560).
New members are always welcome.
