Lac Seul chief to run for PCs

Category:

Lac Seul Chief Clifford Bull has been nominated to be the PC candidate for the new riding of Kiiwetinoong.

It formerly was the northern part of the Kenora-Rainy River riding.

Chief Bull is the first candidate to ever be nominated in this new riding, which has a majority indigenous population.

“I am honoured to represent the Kiiwetinoong community as the Ontario PC candidate,” Chief Bull said in a press release issued by the party on Friday.

“For too long, Kathleen Wynne and the Liberals have abandoned the people of Northwestern Ontario,” he charged.

"Under this government's watch, we've seen our treaty rights ignored, our economy has struggled, and families and seniors struggle to access the health care they depend on.

“As your MPP, I would fight for better education and employment opportunities for our youth, a healthy and thriving natural resources sector, and better roads to ensure people can travel to and from work safely,” Chief Bull added.

“For years I have been proud to represent my community, and as your MPP I would be a strong voice that ensures Kiiwetinoong is heard and not forgotten,” he pledged.

“Chief Bull is a great addition to our already experienced, modern, inclusive, and pragmatic PC team,” interim party leader Vic Fedeli said in the same release.

“As chief of Lac Seul First Nation since 2006, Chief Bull has been a champion for not only his community but all First Nations' communities,” he noted.

Lac Seul is one of the largest reserves in Northwestern Ontario and as a result, Chief Bull has a wealth of experience fighting and standing up for the far north, Fedeli added.

“His dedication and effectiveness is reflected in the strong working relationships he has forged between local municipalities such as Sioux Lookout,” Fedeli remarked.

“These sorts of partnerships will be essential for Kiiwetinoong's future MPP.”

Fedeli also said Chief Bull understands the importance of public service, and brings a strong sense of unity to the community.
