Kenora schools locked down

The Kenora OPP received a call just after 10 a.m. today that a male suspect had been observed with a firearm on the trail system in the north end of Kenora, near a number of schools.

All schools in the area were placed on immediate lockdown.

These included Beaver Brae Secondary School, Evergreen Public School, Valleyview Public School, Pope John Paul II School, Ecole Ste. Marguerite Bourgeoys, and St. Thomas Aquinas High School, as well as the Kenora Catholic District School Board office.

Police attended immediately and within a short time had located and arrested two subjects.

The investigation is ongoing and the threat has been contained.

Pope John Paul II, Ecole Ste. Marguerite Bourgeoys, and St. Thomas Aquinas are continuing to keep their doors locked and students secure as police search for evidence in the area.

Further details will be released as they become available.
