'Holly Daze' yet another success

Those from Emo and the surrounding areas who took the time to attend this year's “Holly Daze” parade were treated to a fantastic experience.

Thanks to the mild weather, a large crowd was on hand early to enjoy some hot chocolate and cookies, meet with friends and relatives, and await the beginning of the parade.

And they were not disappointed. Members of the Emo Chamber of Commerce and local groups put a much-appreciated effort into their floats this year.

Following the parade came the lighting of the Emo Christmas tree and then what some are calling the best-ever fireworks display.

A huge thank you goes out to New Gold for its generous donation and assistance in making this a successful event. The fireworks filled the sky with amazing colours that seemed to go on forever.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the parade, who took part, and to all the families and friends who gathered to kick off the Christmas season.

Six new members have joined the Emo and District Lions Club.

They all had been working on club activities for months but during a potluck meeting Monday night, they officially were sworn in as members of the largest service organization in the world.

They promised to uphold the Lions' code of ethics, and to work diligently towards making the world and our district a better place to live.

The club always is looking for members who want to become part of this great movement. If anyone joins before Jan. 25, which is the beginning of the region's Mid-winter Convention, the cost of the convention will be covered by the 5M10 District.

All the new members will have to do is pay for the hotel room.

This year's convention will be held at the Fortune Bay casino, which is only a short drive away.

Not only do Lions do a lot of great work but they also enjoy having a good time with other Lions.

The profits from the club's recent “Hunters' Night” will go towards the new playground being constructed at the Devlin ball diamond. With so many people making use of this facility, it was felt this would be a great way to contribute to the district.

By joining the Emo and District Lions Club, you will have an opportunity to use your ideas and energy on future projects in the district.

If you would like more information about how to join, call Dave at 482-2540.
