A 60- year-old female has been taken to hospital for medical care after injuring herself while hiking at Pukaskwa National Park near Marathon.
The Marathon OPP was contacted Thursday regarding the activation of an emergency transmitter.
A female and male, both from Toronto, were hiking the “Costal Trail” in the park, about 40 km from Marathon, when the female fell during their lengthy hike and experienced non-life threatening injuries.
The Marathon OPP Marine Unit and Parks Canada both left shore in their respective vessels with the intent of locating both hikers during the night.
But due to extreme wind and fog, both vessels had to return to shore.
It subsequently was determined that under the circumstances, the rescue would continue during daylight hours.
