Three new fires were confirmed in the region by late yesterday afternoon.
Thunder Bay Fire #2, located near Hawk Lake, has been declared “out” at 0.1 hectares in size.
But Kenora Fire #7, burning near Wabaseemoong First Nation, was listed as “not under control” at 0.5 ha at last report.
Meanwhile, Nipigon Fire #5, near Wawong Lake, was reported as “under control” at 0.2 ha.
Two new fires also were confirmed later in the day Wednesday.
Thunder Bay Fire #1, located near Fort William First Nation, has since been declared “out” at 0.2 ha.
Kenora Fire #6 also was declared “out” at 0.2 ha in size.
The fire hazard is “moderate” to “high” across the region.
People are reminded that they are responsible for safe outdoor fire management and must follow guidelines set out in the Forest Fires Prevention Act of Ontario, including no day burning of brush or grass fires.
Campfires are to be tended at all times and put out before leaving.
