Fire scene cooling down in region

Category:

No new fires were reported in the Northwest Region by yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile, numerous blazes being monitored in the far north have been declared “out,” bringing the current number of active fires in the region to 77.

The forest fire hazard is mostly “low" to "moderate" across the region, with some areas of "high” hazard in the southwest, central, and far north sectors.

The fire danger rating for the province is “low,” and minimal fire behaviour is expected on new and active fires.

To report a forest fire, call 310-FIRE (3473).

In related news, Ontario continues to provide support to national and international partners with forest fire management personnel, equipment, and aircraft requested through the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre.

Currently, there are 241 personnel out-of-province supporting firefighting efforts, including 206 in B.C., 21 in Manitoba, and 14 in Alberta (Parks Canada).

Additional personnel are expected to deploy from Ontario later this week for ongoing support to B.C. and the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre.

The deployments include FireRanger crews, an Incident Management Team, overhead personnel, and structural protection team personnel.

Aircraft resources also have been deployed, including one air attack unit to Manitoba and one to the U.S.

Each unit is comprised of two CL-415 heavy waterbombers and pilots, a Birddog aircraft, and an air attack officer.
