Two new fires were confirmed in the Northwest Region by yesterday afternoon.
Red Lake Fire #49, located near Guest Lake, was listed as “being held” at 0.5 hectares in size at last report.
Kenora Fire #64, located near Crowduck Lake, has been declared “out” at 0.1 ha.
Two fires were sparked in Fort Frances District on Thursday.
Fort Frances Fire #18, located near Moose Lake, was declared “out” at 0.5 ha.
Fort Frances Fire #19, located near Vickers Lake, was listed as “not under control” at 1.5 ha in size as of that afternoon.
The region continues to have a “high" to "extreme” fire danger in the north and south portions.
The central portion of the region remains in a “low" to "moderate” fire danger.
But warm, sunny weather is forecast to increase the forest fire hazard across the region.
The biggest fire in the region—Red Lake #38—has grown to 14,888 ha in size.
It is located eight km to the southeast of North Spirit Lake in the far north but the community is not threatened at this time.
The consolidation of hose lines along the north side of the fire continues.
Fire behaviour has increased on the blaze following two days of unsettled weather.
There currently are 19 active fires in the region, 17 of which either are listed as “under observation," "under control," or "being held.”
