Drive safe this weekend

Category:

With the long weekend ahead, members of your local OPP detachment are encouraging drivers to stay alert and make wise choices while travelling.

  • Drive safe

Aggressive driving habits such as speeding, following too close, or unsafe passing can lead to tragedy on our highways.

  • Buckle up

It’s a proven fact that “seatbelts save lives.” This includes drivers, passengers, and child restraint systems such as car seats and booster seats.

  • Just drive

Drivers are encouraged to keep your thumbs on the wheel.

Distractions such as cellphones, changing radio stations, and eating while driving can take your attention off the roadway just long enough to cause a collision.

Drivers also are reminded that as of Sept. 1, drivers caught using a hand-held device will face a set fine of $400, plus a victim surcharge and court fees for a total of $490, along with three demerit points.

  • Stay sober

There is no excuse for drinking and driving. Walk, take a cab, or arrange for a designated driver.

Keeping highways safe is a community effort. We know you will be out there, so will we.

Drive safe–stay alert–stay sober!
