Need a dress for prom or another special occasion?
Why not drop by “Curvy Chick” here this Saturday (April 9) for the third-annual dress giveaway.
Owner Jennifer Horton has been receiving donations of dresses for the past month in anticipation of the giveaway, which will take place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at 306 Scott St.
“I’ve had a positive response,” she noted. “I have almost 30 dresses collected for Saturday.
“It’s a good feeling.
“There’s sizes 2 to 24, so there’s all sizes,” Horton added.
She also is welcoming more dress donations prior to Saturday’s giveaway.
“Even if they wanted to bring them in the day before, I certainly wouldn’t turn anyone away,” Horton stressed.
“The more, the better.”
Horton also suggested people come to the giveaway as soon as it starts in order to get the best selection of dresses.
The giveaway format will be the same as last year—people are asked to donate what they can afford.
There is no obligation to donate but any amount is greatly appreciated.
All proceeds will be donated to the Fort Frances Community Chest.
“The ‘Community Chest’ is a local charity and it helps local people,” said Horton, explaining why she chose it.
“I just want to see the money stay local,” she reasoned.
Horton said the point of the dress giveaway is “to help young girls be fitted with dresses so they can attend prom without the stress of monetary restrictions.”
Last year, the dress giveaway was able to help close to 30 families, and Horton would love to see that success duplicated.
“I hope that it’s busy and all of the dresses go,” she remarked.
Any dresses not taken will be set aside for next year’s giveaway.
