The 38th annual Nestor Falls Winter Carnival is almost here. The family friendly carnival will be held Friday, March 6 to Sunday March 8, with a full weekend of events planned.
3-6 p.m. Free children's games at the Nestor Falls Public School Skating Rink. Dogsled rides, games, glow skating, prizes and snacks. Parental supervision required.
5-9 p.m. Fish cook-off and dessert competition at the Nestor Falls Community Hall. Supper is at 7 p.m. The Fish winner will receive a $200 Visa gift card and reward. The dessert winner will receive a $150 visa gift card and reward. There's no entry fee for participants, but to be a judge costs $12 for adults and $5 for children, and includes fish, baked beans, coleslaw, bun, dessert and drink. A fish cooker has been presented as a door prize by Helliar's Resort.
All events on Saturday will take place at the Nestor Falls Community Hall.
7 a.m. to 4 p.m. - A fish derby will be held. Entry is $10 per person, with tickets available at Mel's Marine, Dalseg's, Gill's Trading Post, Sunset Cove Resort, Bite Me Bait and Tackle, Helliar's Resort, Nestor Falls Bait and Tackle, or on derby day after 9 a.m. at the Community Hall. New this year is a perch category.
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. - a penny table, operated by the Nestor Falls Public School
11 a.m. Community Hall canteen and cash bar opens. Proceeds will to towards a new fire boat for Nestor Falls.
11 a.m. Cribbage tournament
9 p.m to 1 a.m. a dance, with music by DJ Maverick Judson. Admission is $5, with an age of majority cash bar. Free Ride Safe available after 11 p.m.
8:30 to 11:30 a.m. - All you can eat pancake and sausage breakfast. Free-will donations will go towards a new fire boat.
