Just after 2 a.m. today, the Rainy River District OPP received a complaint of a possible impaired driver in town.
Officers located the vehicle, travelling at a high rate of speed, on McIrvine Road near Birch Street.
The driver, a 21-year-old La Vallee Township man, was showing signs of impairment.
He was arrested and taken to the OPP detachment for breath tests.
Meanwhile, the vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for the mandatory seven days.
The driver subsequently was charged with care and control of a vehicle while impaired and having a blood alcohol level over .08 mg.
He also was charged with stunt driving (driving more than 50 km/h over the posted speed limit), having no insurance, and being a novice driver with a blood alcohol level above zero.
Other charges included failing to surrender a driver’s licence, having no current validated permit, and failing to surrender a vehicle permit.
He is scheduled to appear in court here Oct. 5.
