The Fort Frances Museum and Cultural Centre will be opening its new exhibit “Canada: Day 1,” which tells the story of immigration to Canada, in early January. The museum will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The Fort Frances Senior Centre Board will be holding an Open House at the Fort Frances Senior Centre from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10. The open house is open to 55+ and is an opportunity to learn more about the events and activities that take place at the centre. Light snacks and refreshments will be served.

Backus Community Centre presents “One Giant Leap” performed by the vocal ensemble Cantus at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10 at the Backus Auditorium. tickets are $12 for adults; $5 for children; and free for children under 5. Prices are in U.S. dollars and tickets can be purchased at Backus Community Centre, City Drug, Betty's, J&D Foods in Littlefork and at the door.

The Fort Frances Fire Brigade will be collecting Christmas trees on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 1:00 p.m. Trees must be placed curbside and unobstructed no later than noon on Jan. 11, and no pickup will occur down back alleys. Donations for the Fire Brigade can be placed inside mailboxes.

The Fort Frances Muskie Boys will take on the Beaver Brae Broncos at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at the Ice for Kids Arena. Tickets are $8 for adults; $2 for students; and free for children under 12. Season tickets apply and the annual parent's night will also be held before the game.

The Fort Frances Muskie Girls will take on the Beaver Brae Broncos at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at the 52 Canadians Arena. Tickets are $7 for adults; $2 for youth ages 13-18; and free for children 12 and under.

The Rainy Lake Gymnastics Academy will be holding two Paint Nights at the Royal Canadian Legion to raise funds to purchase equipment for the program. A 19+ paint night will be held Friday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m., and an all-ages paint night will be held Saturday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. Tickets for either night are $45+HST and are available from RLGA gymnasts, online at www.paintnite.com or by emailing rlgafundraising@gmail.com. The Fort Frances Senior Centre invites all seniors to a special presentation of CMHA's Older Adults Program by Sarah-Lynn Klassen at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17. Sarah-Lynn will speak on mental heath. “Is it the winter blahs or something more?” Please pre-register by calling Cindy at 274-7656.

The Rainy River Cattlemen's Association will be holding its annual meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16 at Our Lady of the Way school in Stratton. The agenda will include updates, sales dates for 2020 and bringing members up to speed on the barn construction. Your opinions will be sought and appreciated.
