The Fort Frances Lakers will take on the Red Lake Miners at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14 at the Ice for Kids arena. Admission is $12 for adults; $8 for students; $5 for children 12 and under; free for children under five.
The Fort Frances Lakers will also be facing off against the Wisconsin Lumberjacks at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17 (Family Day) at the Ice for Kids arena. Kids 12 and under get free admission to this game when accompanied by an adult. Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for students.
St. John the Baptist Anglican Church will be holding a Valentine Luncheon from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14. Tickets are $8 and assorted soups, sandwiches and dainties will be served. Everyone welcome.
Join the Substance Abuse Team, the Fort Frances Lakers and the Fort Frances Muskies for a free Family Day Skate at the ’52 Canadians arena from 2-4 p.m. on Feb. 17. Complimentary hot chocolate will be provided. Donations of gently used hockey skates and helmets are also being collected at the Memorial Sportsplex and “The Duke” (Couchiching Arena) so more kids have the chance to get on the ice.
The Fort Frances Curling Club will be hosting an Introduction to Wheelchair Curling, in anticipation of the Northern Ontario Provincial Wheelchair Championships. The event is open to the general public and free of charge. It will take place Friday, Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Fort Frances Curling Club, 300 Eighth St. E.
The Fort Frances Muskie Boys will be holding their annual Tea and Bake Sale from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Knox United Church. Enjoy refreshments, sandwiches, dainties, a penny table and door prizes. Admission is $5.
The Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary will hold its next monthly supper–featuring roast beef–on Friday, Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. upstairs at the Legion (doors open at 4:30). Admission is $16/person, with take-outs available by calling 274-3772. Bring a friend!
Backus Community Centre is presenting “Church of Cash” at the Backus Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28. Church of Cash is a world class Johnny Cash Tribute that stays loyal to the songs and message of the Man in Black. Tickets are $12 for adults; $5 for children age 6 to 18; kids under 5 free. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
The Fort Frances Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Br. #29 will be holding a PJs and Pearl’s Gala fundraiser, Saturday April 4. The Fort Frances Public Library holds a number of weekly events for kids of all ages:
•Tween Club Tuesdays are held every Tuesday from 4-5 p.m. Join us each Tuesday afternoon for fun and informative activities geared for youth.
•Story Time Wednesdays are held every Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Read, play, and make new friends with parents, caregivers and children. This free program is filled with stories, finger rhymes and songs.
•Baby Time Thursdays are held every Thursday from 10:30-11:15 a.m. Bouncing and tickling rhymes, songs and stories that will make your baby smile.
•Craft Club Saturdays are held every Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Drop-in and create some wild and wacky crafts to take home! Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.

The Fort Frances Museum and Cultural Centre is opening its new exhibit “Canada: Day 1,” which tells the story of immigration to Canada. The museum will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
