A candlelight service in observance of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, will be held today (Dec. 6) at 6 p.m. at Knox United Church. Refreshments to follow. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Tour de Fort presents “Boreal” on Friday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Townshend Theatre (doors open at 7 p.m.) Open to passport holders, with a limited number of tickets available at the theatre box office on the night of the performance for $35 each.

The Northwest District Catholic School Board will hold its next meeting on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 9:30 a.m. at the board office in Dryden (75 Van Horne Ave., Suite B).

The ninth-annual “Stuff-a-Cruiser” campaign will be held Saturday, Dec. 8 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Safeway, The Place, and Walmart in Fort Frances, Cloverleaf Grocery in Emo, and Beaver Mills Market in Rainy River.

The Muskie girls' hockey team will host its annual tea and bake sale on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the FFHS cafeteria. It will feature sandwiches and desserts, as well as a bake table and penny table. Admission is $5.

The Fort Frances Lakers will host the Red Lake Miners in SIJHL action on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena. Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for students, and $5 for those 12 and under, with those under five being free.

The Fort Frances Choraliers will perform this year's Christmas cantata, “Good News from Home,” on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 3 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls. Admission is a free-will offering.

The annual Santa Lucia supper will take place Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Zion Lutheran Evangelical Church, with the service at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $15 each, with those 12 and under being free, which are available at Northwoods Gallery & Gifts or by calling Todd or Laurie Moxham (274-6059).

The La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary will hold its Christmas luncheon on Monday, Dec. 10 at noon at Knox United Church. Tickets cost $15, which are available at Shoppers, Pharmasave, and the hospital gift shop until 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7 (no late sales).

The new town council will hold its first regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 10 at the Civic Centre. It will follow the committee of the whole meeting, which gets underway at 5:30 p.m.

An open house—featuring lunch and refreshments—in honour of Dr. Cam Moorhouse's retirement from his family practice after 37 years will be held on Thursday, Dec. 13 from 19:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at his office at 240 First St. E. (downstairs of the old high school building).

“Holiday Melodies,” a free performance by the Rainy Lake Orchestra, will take place Monday, Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fort Frances Public Library. Refreshments provided by the Friends of the Library. Donations for the Salvation Army's food bank are welcome.
