The Muskie boys' hockey team will host the International Falls Broncos in exhibition action today (Jan. 31) at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena. The team also will honour the memory of Barney Maher and salute the contributions of Bob Miller. Admission is $7 for adults and $2 for students, with those under 12 being free (season tickets apply).

Comic stunt juggler Tuey Wilson will perform on Friday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Backus Auditorium in International Falls (doors open at 6:30). Admission is $12 for adults and $5 for children (U.S. funds), with those under five being free. Tickets are available at Betty's here, as well as at City Drug and Backus in the Falls, and at the door.

The annual “Forget Me Not” dinner, hosted by the Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts, will be held Saturday, Feb. 2 at La Place Rendez-Vous, with cocktails at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6. It also will feature live entertainment. The Fort Frances Lakers will host the Red Lake Miners in SIJHL action on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena. Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for students, and $5 for kids 12 and under, with those under five being free.

The local Legion is hosting a Super Bowl party on Sunday, Feb. 3 starting at 1 p.m. It will feature darts and Cribbage (both $5 entry fee), as well as a door prize and more.

Fort Frances girls' hockey “Radio Bingo" will hold a "Monster Bingo”—featuring $5,000 in total prizes—on Monday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. on B•93 The Border. Buy 9-Ups for $20, which are available at various locations around town and in the district.

St. John's Anglican Church will host a Valentine luncheon, featuring assorted soups, sandwiches, and dainties, on Friday, Feb. 8 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. There also will be a bake table. Admission is $8 for adults and everyone is welcome.

The Rainy River District Trappers Council will hold a workshop on Saturday, Feb. 9 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Métis Hall (714 Armit Ave.) Admission is free and everyone is welcome, with lunch available.

The Muskie boys' hockey team will host its annual tea and bake sale on Saturday, Feb. 9 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Fort Frances High School cafeteria. There also will be a penny table, door prize, and photo booth. Admission is $5.

An open house to mark the new location of the Riverside Foundation for Health Care's office (now in the main lobby of La Verendrye Hospital) will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 12 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. One and all are invited to drop by to enjoy refreshments, meet with Foundation board members, and learn more about the Foundation's role.

Local writer Judith Johanson will hold a reading of her first collection of poetry, entitled “Intersections,” on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Fort Frances Public Library. Copies of the book also will be for sale for $20 each.

Borderland Pride will hold a meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Shaw Room at the Fort Frances Public Library to review last year's “Pride Week” festivities and get input on this year's roster of events. All are welcome to attend.

A capote-making workshop, with instructors Caren Fagerdahl and Jane Trivers, will be held Feb. 16 and 23 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Seven Generations Education Institute (lunch provided). The entry deadline for the 2019 Rainy River District Festival for the Performing Arts is Friday, Feb. 22. Entry forms can be found on the “Forms, Fees and Resources” page of their website ( and at the back of the syllabus. The updated syllabus also has been posted on the site.

The Rainy River Christian Farmers Association will hold its annual meeting and policy tour on Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 7-9 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo. “Fibre Content,” a travelling exhibit featuring award-winning artwork created from textiles, will be in the main floor gallery of the Fort Frances Museum beginning Feb. 1 and running through March.

Bingo at the Fort Frances Seniors' Centre (Sister Kennedy Centre) has resumed on Fridays at 1:30 p.m. Everyone aged 55+ welcome!

The Craft Club for Kids runs every Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Fort Frances Public Library. Create something fun to take home. Children must be accompanied by an adult for this free activity.
