The Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary will hold its next monthly supper–featuring a turkey dinner and all the fixings–today (March 31) at 5:30 p.m. upstairs at the Legion (doors open at 4:30 p.m.) A 50/50 draw also will be held. The cost is $15/person, with take-outs available by calling 274-3772.
“Tour de Fort” will close out its 2016-17 season with a performance by Peter Katz today (March 31) at 7:30 p.m. at the Townshend Theatre. Ian Kelly will be the opening act at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. for passport sales for the 2017-18 season, which cost $100 for six shows. For those without a 2016-17 passport, if you purchase one for 2017-18, you will receive free admission to the Peter Katz show.
“Rainy River Ag Days” will be held Saturday, April 1 from 9 a.m.-3:15 p.m. at the Emo Legion. There will be several guest speakers and presentations, and local MP Don Rusnak will be on hand to discuss agricultural concerns. The Fort Frances Lakers will host the Dryden Ice Dogs in Game 3 of their best-of-seven semi-final series on Saturday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena. Game 4 then will go Tuesday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students.
The second-annual National Autism Awareness Day Walk is planned for Sunday, April 2 at 2 p.m. in International Falls, starting at Ronning’s. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Gabrielle Scrimshaw will speak on the importance of education on Tuesday, April 4 at 6 p.m. at the Copper River Inn. Admission is free and supper will be provided. The annual fundraiser book sale at Revco Carpet will take place April 5-7 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and again Saturday, April 8 from 9 a.m.-noon. The public can drop by the store (950 Fifth St. W.), fill a bag with books, and then make a donation. Proceeds will go to support the Borderland Judo Club and local Alzheimer Society.

A fundraiser for the Bear Clan Patrol (Fort Frances chapter) will be held Saturday, April 8 at Carl’s Eatery, with seatings at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The cost is $45/person, with $10 from every meal donated to the Bear Clan Patrol. The Border Skating Club’s 45th-annual ice show, this year entitled “Vacation Destination,” will be held Saturday, April 8 at 7 p.m. and again Sunday, April 9 at 2 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena. Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for students/seniors (65+) , with those three and under being free. Weekend passes also are available for $20 each. Tickets available at the front desk at the Memorial Sports Centre.

“Canada’s Greatest Explorer” Josh Henry will be sharing his stories and photos on Wednesday, April 12 at 6 p.m. at the Fort Frances Public Library as part of “The Human Experience Series.” Admission is free, with refreshments provided by the “Friends of the Library.”
The annual “Easter Egg-Stravaganza,” hosted by the Fort Frances Kiwanis Club, will be held Saturday, April 15 starting at 11 a.m. on Scott Street. Pick up a map at the museum courtyard and go from business to business to collect candy. There also will be prizes, photos with the Easter Bunny at Lidkea Optometry (bring your own camera), and more! Donations of non-perishable food items also will be accepted.
“Bail or Jail,” presented by the Fort Frances Voyageurs Lions Club, will be held Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Fort Frances Curling Club in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce’s trade show.
The La Vallee Fire Fighters Association will hold a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Saturday, April 22 from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Devlin Hall. Tickets, which are available from any La Vallee firefighter, as well as at the municipal office, cost $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Funds raised will go to the purchase of self-contained breathing apparatus.
The Fort Frances Choraliers will perform their Easter cantata, this year entitled “Champion of Love,” on Sunday, April 23 at 3 p.m. at the New Beginnings Fellowship and again on Sunday, April 30 at 3 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls. The concerts will be fundraisers for a new sound system for the group and free-will offerings will be accepted. A bake sale also will be held in conjunction with the cantata performance here.
“Through your lens,” a photo contest hosted by Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP Don Rusnak, is now accepting submissions. “The Refuge,” a hot lunch program open to all Fort Frances High School students, will be served at the Bethel Church (behind the Copper River Inn) every Monday until the end of the school year. Ongoing Spanish classes (90 minutes long) will run every Wednesday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the VALA office at 241C Second St. E. (old high school). These are open to anyone.
