“A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens will be the subject of a dramatic reading and holiday celebration on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Emo Knox United Church (3 Roy St.). Musical interludes by the Knox Choir and refreshments and baking at intermission (included with admission). Tickets cost $15/adults, $10/students. A candlelight service in observance of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, will be held Friday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. at Knox United Church here. Refreshments to follow. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The Fort Frances Lakers will host the Dryden Ice Dogs on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena. Bring new, unwrapped toys for the UNFC toy drive and be eligible to win prizes. Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for students, and kids 12 and under free.

The annual “Stuff-a-Cruiser” campaign will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Safeway, The Place, and Walmart in Fort Frances, Cloverleaf Grocery in Emo, and Beaver Mills Market in Rainy River. Drop by, get a bag and a list, and then go buy groceries to donate to local food banks.
St. John The Baptist Anglican Church will host its Christmas tea on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 2-4 p.m. Baking, draws, jewellery, mystery gifts, music items. Admission is $5 per person (kids under 5 free); admission fee includes tea, coffee, Jell-O, rye bread, and dainties. Everyone welcome.
The Santa Claus parade will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7. Start time is 5 p.m. with lineup to begin at 3:30 p.m. and float judging to take place at 4:15 p.m. The parade route will be the same as in recent years, beginning at Reid Avenue (the library parking lot) and then heading west on Scott Street, ending at Mowat Avenue.
The Fort Frances Choraliers will perform “Christmas Anthems” on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls. Admission is a free-will offering. A performance for Rainycrest residents will be held at Rainycrest Long Term Care on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 1:30 p.m.
Town council will hold its next regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 9 at the Civic Centre. It will follow the committee of the whole meeting, which gets underway at 5 p.m. This will be the only regular council meeting in December.
A bird identification workshop, hosted by the Rainy River Field Naturalists, is slated for Wednesday, Dec. 11 from 6-8 p.m. at the Fort Frances Public Library. Brush up on your avian knowledge and learn more about the Christmas bird count on Dec. 14. For more info, call 274-2988.
