Bob Wepruk, George Elliott and the Northern Jammers will hold a free concert on Thursday, Sept. 5 at the Rainy Lake Square from 6-8 p.m. Bring a chair. Their country and bluegrass tunes will be sure to get you dancing.

A Dudley Hewitt Cup special “action plan” meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Super 8 Motel. One of the first orders of business will be to strike a tournament committee. Past volunteers, new volunteers, and hockey fans all are invited.

The Hunter Education and Canadian Firearms Safety Course will be taught on Sept. 5-8 at the Super 8 Motel here. It will run Thursday and Friday 6-10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Course fee is $320 plus HST (includes books and exams). “Tour de Fort” presents Carl Dixon in concert on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Townshend Theatre (doors open at 7 p.m.) The show is open to passport-holders but some tickets will be available at the theatre box office on the night of the performance for $35 each. As well, 2019-20 passports will be available for pickup prior to the show starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Fort Frances Lakers will face the Dryden Ice Dogs in exhibition action on Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. at Ice for Kids Arena. Admission $12. Season tickets and 400 Club tickets will be available at the game.

The Northwest Catholic District School Board will hold its next monthly meeting on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 9:30 a.m. at the finance office in Dryden.

A benefit dinner will be held for Leeann Johnson-Mainville on Sunday, Sept. 8 from 3-6 p.m. at the Couchiching Multi Use Facility. A lasagna dinner—that will be safe for those with celiac disease as well as vegetarians—will be served and there will be a penny table with tons of great prizes. Tickets are $20 per adult, $10 for kids; children under five are free. Tickets available at Northwoods and the Great Bear, from Sandra McNay (276-1293), as well as from some of Johnson-Mainville's family. Support tickets are also available for $20.

Town council will hold its next regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 9 at the Civic Centre. It will follow the committee of the whole meeting, which gets underway at 4 p.m.

NCDS will hold its annual general meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. at NCDS (300 Scott St.).

Fort Frances Wado Kai Karate Club will be starting its season on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. at J.W. Walker School. September classes are all free and everyone (ages six to adult) is welcome to come give it a try. All registration info is on their Facebook page.

The Fort Frances Writers' Group will hold their first fall meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 4:30 p.m. at the Fort Frances Museum. New members welcome. Current members please bring your summer assignments.

The Fort Frances Curling Club will hold its 2019/2020 registration on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the curling club. Find registration forms at curlfortfrances.com. Annual general meeting will follow registration. Curling will begin the week of Oct. 14 (schedules will be posted).

Online registration for the Emo-Devlin-Barwick Minor Hockey Association is now open at emohockey.com. Cash only registration will be held Sept. 11 and Sept. 12 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Emo arena. A $25 late fee will apply after Sept. 14.

The next “Open Air Art Studio” will be held Thursday, Sept. 12 from 3-5:30 p.m. in the Shaw room at the library. The theme will be FASD awareness parachord bracelets and key chains. The session is free, and all ages and abilities are welcome to attend.

The Fort Frances Lions Club's TV Bingo will resume Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. on Shaw Cable (channel 10). Game cards available at the usual outlets.

Municipal Hazardous and Special Waste Day will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Public Works yard (900 Wright Ave.). Bring paint, oil, antifreeze, batteries, mercury, and more for proper disposal.

The Muskie Boys hockey team will host a fundraising golf tournament on Saturday, Sept. 14 with a 10 a.m. tee off at Heron Landing. Entry fee is $400.00 per four person team. Register at the pro shop or call 274-5678. For more information call Muskie head coach Chris Sinclair at 271-0819.

The Rainy River District Women's Shelter of Hope will hold its annual general meeting on Monday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. at La Place Rendez-Vous. Any interested parties may attend.

The Rainy River District retired nurses will hold their annual retirement dinner on Monday, Sept. 16 at the Fort Frances Legion. Cocktails at 5:30 p.m. Dinner at 6:30. Cost is $25 per ticket. Tickets can be bought at Northwoods, Pharmasave, Emo Drugs, the Emo hospital, Cloverleaf Grocery, or by calling Carol (487-2512), Jean (274-2286), or Sally (274-5625). Tickets must be purchased by Sept. 9.

The Fort Frances Badminton Club is taking registrations for its youth program (starts Sept. 16) and recreational badminton (starts Oct. 4). The registration deadline for the former is Monday, Sept. 9; there is no deadline for the latter. CUPE Local 65 will hold its general membership meeting and a special meeting to vote on bylaw amendments on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau.

The Fort Frances Girls'/Women's Hockey Association currently is holding online registration at www.ffgwha.com, with the season going from the last week of September through March. A pre-season development camp, for registered FFGWHA players in the Novice through Midget divisions, will run Sept. 17-19 (the cost of the camp is included in the registration fee).

The 908 Rainy Lake Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron is looking for new members. They meet Monday nights now through June 11, 2020 in the arena auditorium. Ages 12-18 welcome.
