With talk of a possible teachers’ strike, I thought I would write this letter to offer my support.
I know that many people feel that a teacher’s job is an easy one. This is not true. I know. I have spent many hours being involved with volunteer work at my daughter’s school.
It takes a great deal of work and effort to make a child’s education an interesting and fulfilling one. It takes hours of preparation to plan one day’s activity. Teachers are required to meet the standard curriculum but have to take into account that not all students learn at the same level, and some require special assistance.
Not to mention the countless extra hours given to plan field trips, special outings, interesting crafts, or athletic events. Even offering your child a hot lunch takes hours of extra work.
Teachers work late hours, nights, and many weekends to ensure their students receive the best education they can give them.
But with recent budget cuts and changes to the education system, providing your children with a quality learning experience is becoming an increasingly difficult task. Our teachers need the community’s support now more than ever. As people who care about the children’s future, we must get involved.
Please remember that the teachers have our children’s best interest at heart. Please be supportive. Your involvement can make a difference.
