Some tickets still left for ‘Luncheon of Hope’

It’s not too late to get tickets for this year’s “Luncheon of Hope,” which is set for this Saturday (Oct. 20) at La Place Rendez-Vous.

“Tickets are moving,” said Teresa Hazel, chair of the Rainy River District Breast Health Network, noting that although a total of 220 tickets were printed for the event, each luncheon has been a sold-out event.

Tickets cost $25 each, and are on sale now at Pharmasave, Shoppers Drug Mart, Emo Health Centre, Rainy River Health Centre, and La Verendrye Hospital, or by calling 274-4817.

Hazel said the biannual event should be an informative and fun afternoon.

The “Luncheon of Hope” will start with a mix -and-mingle at 11:30 a.m., with lunch served at noon, and the rest of the program to follow.

Dr. Carole Spread, the new surgeon at La Verendrye Hospital here, will be the guest speaker, sharing her perspective on breast cancer prevention strategies and treatment options.

“I think having Dr. Spread there will be quite interesting for people,” said Hazel.

There also will be a special appearance by “The Boobettes,” about whom Hazel could say nothing else for fear of spoiling the surprise.

Meanwhile, the lucky winner of the “Quilt for the Cure” raffle also will be drawn at the “Luncheon of Hope.”

Tickets for this queen-sized quilt, donated by the local Cabin Country Quilt Guild, are on sale for $2 each at various locations.

This will be the seventh “Luncheon of Hope” put on by the Rainy River District Breast Health Network, whose mission is to increase awareness about total breast health.

It also helps promote the Riverside Breast Health Program, where women of all ages can get a clinical breast examination annually by a trained professional.

“The Breast Health Program at Riverside has really been visionary, in that we have such a great program for breast education and clinical breast exams,” noted Hazel.

“You don’t have to go to your doctor—you can just call here and get in,” she explained. “They can refer you for a mammogram and you get it that day if they say you need a mammogram.

“It’s all part of the program.”
