Mental health funding secured

As part of Ontario’s plan to improve services and supports for children and youth with mental health and addictions needs, the Ministry of Education will be phasing in initiatives over three years to support students and district school boards.

The Northwest Catholic District School Board received $20,000 to support professional learning opportunities.

“This funding will be used for all special education teachers, principals, vice-principals, Intermediate Division leads, and co-ordinators to participate in the Mental Health First Aid Canada training course, offered by the Canadian Mental Health Association,” noted Shelley Durance, the board’s special education co-ordinator.

“The Northwest Catholic District School Board is proud to support training of staff to support children in our schools,” said Director of Education Mary-Catherine Kelly.
