Newly found footage shows notorious British spy Kim Philby

LONDON — The notorious British spy Kim Philby is shown in newly uncovered footage addressing East German spies about his life as a double agent secretly helping the Soviet Union.

The film of his 1981 talk was posted online by the BBC Monday after it was found in the archives of the East German Intelligence Service known as the Stasi.

It is the first time that footage of the former MI6 agent describing his role during the Cold War has been released to the public.

Philby rose through British intelligence ranks and provided secret information to the Soviet Union. In the 60-minute video he described providing information to the Soviets “year in, year out.”

He was exposed as a Soviet agent in 1963 after years spent as a double agent.
