No new fires were reported in the Northwest Region yesterday, although two were reported Wednesday.
Nipigon District had a lightning-caused fire in the Marten Falls areas while Thunder Bay District had a tree on a power line about 25 km north of Thunder Bay.
Both blazes were declared “out” within the day at 0.1 hectares each in size.
Meanwhile, aerial reconnaissance of northern fires may result in some of them being declared “out” in the next few days.
Kenora District continues to monitor a fire on Lake of the Woods.
Red Lake Fire #31, the largest fire with the greatest commitment of resources in July, was declared under “control” on Tuesday at 18,556 ha in size.
Recent rain—and more rain in the forecast—is resulting in a “low” forest fire hazard across the entire Northwest Region.
