Saturday morning hockey to begin


The Emo rec council is pleased to announce it will be starting Saturday morning hockey for children from senior kindergarten-Grade 4 who already can skate. All participants also are required to wear full hockey equipment.

The purpose of this program, which will run every Saturday from 8-9 a.m. starting on Jan. 10, is to teach players the basic hockey skills and to have some fun.

The cost will be roughly $75, depending on the number of participants.

The Sunlight School of Dance is offering three new sessions, in various forms, for dancers of all ages.

The winter session will be held Jan. 13-24 and Feb. 3-March 14. The Spring Break session will follow from March 16- 21, with the regular spring session to be held March 24-May 16.

The dance school will hold an open house for registration this Saturday (Jan. 10) from 1-3 p.m. at the Emo curling club. Registration forms also can be picked up and returned to the Emo municipal office.

It looks like the business community in Emo is anticipating 2009 will be a good year, with major renovations and an expansion to take place at Tompkins Home Hardware in Emo over the next several weeks.

Although shelves are being moved and products relocated, the store remains open. If you are looking for something specific, just ask any of the staff.

The grand re-opening will take place near the end of February.

In related news, the Emo Inn will be closed until Jan. 11 as staff is busy renovating and painting the Back Alley Bar.

Watch for its re-opening!

As well, DeGagne Equipment (John Deere) is constructing an addition while a new business (a storage unit) is being built on the lot east of Central Service.

The next public meeting of Emo council will take place Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. at the municipal office. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

The Emo municipal office still has copies of “Your Emergency Preparedness Guide,” which have been supplied free of charge by Public Safety Canada for each household and apartment within the Township of Emo.
