Monument unveiled

A large crowd showed up Friday to witness the unveiling of the Dance Fire monument, which coincided with the 70th anniversary of the tragic blaze that swept away 17 lives on Thanksgiving Day back in 1938.

Four families who lost loved ones that day were represented as speeches were given and “Amazing Grace” was played on the bagpipes by Jordan Manty.

Many folks enjoyed the luncheon at the Dance Hall after the ceremony, where many also pre-ordered the book on the Dance Fire written by Neil McQuarrie.

Hats off to all the organizers and volunteers who made this an event that will never be forgotten.

Robin’s 2¢:

The woman applying for a job in a Florida lemon grove seemed way too unqualified for the job.

“Look, miss,” asked the foreman. “Have you any actual experience in picking lemons?”

“Well, as a matter of fact, yes,” she replied. “I’ve been divorced three times.”
