Man fined for garbage

A Dryden man has been fined $500 for leaving garbage on Crown land.

Virgil Percy Ignace, 24, has been ordered by the court to clean up the garbage by June 30, 2009.

Ignace, who did not attend his trial, was convicted under the Public Lands Act.

After receiving a tip from the public on June 9, a Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officer from Sioux Lookout District discovered garbage on the east side of Frenchman’s Head Road in Vermilion Additional Township.

After inspecting the contents of the garbage, the officer was able to identify Ignace as the offender.

Justice of the Peace Daisy Hoppe heard the case Nov. 20 in Sioux Lookout.

The ministry reminds the public that it is illegal to dump garbage on Crown land. Approved landfill sites are the only safe place to dispose garbage.
