There is a mixture of potential road washouts and floods in the southern sectors of the region while new forest fires started in the northwest sectors.
The forest fire hazard reflects these variable conditions, with “low” hazards in the south and “moderate” to “high” hazards in the northwest.
Today was expected to be another high hazard day in the north, but rain in the forecast may bring some relief to the “high” hazard areas in the coming days.
Seven new fires were reported between Monday and yesterday evening, including two each in Kenora District, Red Lake District, and Sioux Lookout District and one in Nipigon District.
Lightning was the cause of fires in the Kenora, Red Lake, and Sioux Lookout areas.
Crews continue to work to put the fires out, except two in the far north that will be monitored.
