Next Friday (June 19) will mark the first “barn” concert of the year.
Cornell Farms, which hosts several concerts a summer, is located just 10 minutes west of Fort Frances (on La Vallee Road North one mile north of Highway 11/71.
The opening concert, organized by Katherine Williams and John Dutton, is being billed as “A Concert of Excellence” and will feature many well-known local musicians.
Tickets, which will cost $5 each, are available at the Fort Frances Public Library, Clover Valley Farmers’ Market in Fort Frances, Greensides Store in Devlin, and Cornell Farms.
It definitely will be a fantastic way to start the summer, so get your tickets early!
This season’s concerts in the barn also will include Kevin Fox on Aug. 5 (with Fort Frances native Sarah Hebert as the opening act) and the Wild Turkeys on Sept. 12.

The Emo and District Hospital Auxiliary will be holding its 22nd-annual “Strawberry Social” this Friday (June 12) from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the hospital cafeteria.
Admission will be $3 at the door.
Meanwhile, tickets for three draws (costing $1 each) will be available that afternoon. There will be an afghan made by Dr. Annette Caldbeck and a baby quilt made by Marg Ramsdale (both to be drawn in October), as well as a planter and plant made by Percy and Jackie Champagne, which will be drawn during the social.
Everyone is invited to attend, have some tea and coffee, visit with friends, and enjoy some strawberry shortcake.

The Emo spray park committee would like to thank the Rainy River Future Development Corp. for its recent donation of $5,000 towards the development of the park.
The committee appreciates the efforts of all individuals and groups in the district who have assisted in raising funds for this worthwhile project.
In related news, the Cloverleaf grocery cash register receipts program has come to an end, with the final total to be announced soon.
The committee would like to thank those who have been collecting receipts, especially the students of the nearby elementary schools.

The Emo Legion will host another “Country Jam” this Friday (June 12) beginning around 7 p.m.
Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

The Stratton Seniors’ Friendship Club holds a monthly potluck dinner at noon on the third Thursday of each month.
Membership in the club for 2009 is $5 for anyone who is 50+.
Card parties are held each Monday at 1:30 p.m., and the club also holds other fun events.
