Airborne mineral survey underway

The Township of Atikokan is pleased to announce the commencement of the Marmion Batholith Magnetic Survey.

This 11,600-km survey will provide detailed magnetic data for an area from the Town of Atikokan east to Crooked Pine Lake, and from the Lumby Lake greenstone belt to Quetico Park in the south.

Geo Data Solutions GDS Inc. will complete the survey in early 2009.

This is another project to be completed under the Atikokan Mineral Development Initiative (AMDI), an economic development project that is assessing the present geoscience data available in the Atikokan area and collecting new data to stimulate exploration.

The focus is to provide an integrated product of the new and old data that will attract exploration dollars.

Atikokan is a world renowned mining community that offers an exceptional geological environment for a variety of commodities.

The Marmion Batholith Magnetic Survey was chosen after consultation with the AMDI technical committee and the explorers of the Atikokan area.

This is the third survey to be completed as part of AMDI. The Lumby Lake and Finlayson Lake airborne electromagnetic and magnetic surveys were completed earlier this year and the results are expected to be released in early 2009.

AMDI has contracted the Ontario Geological Survey to be the publisher and repository of all data produced.

AMDI is a Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp., FedNor, Township of Atikokan, Ontario Geological Survey, and Ontario Prospectors Association funded and sponsored
