The Friends of the Fort Frances Public Library held its monthly meeting May 17.
Special thanks was given by chairperson Jean Boileau to Ruth Caldwell, Wendy Agar, Barbara Marr, and everyone who helped to make the Fort Frances Public Library’s “open house” a great success.
The Friends of the Library also presented Fay Stewart, on her retirement, with a framed print of Vi Plumridge’s painting of the public library in recognition of her wonderful service both to the library and its patrons.
Fay surely will be missed by everyone.
Thanks also was given to Gordon McTaggart for the wonderful book-sorting job once again in preparation for the library’s “Gigantic Book Sale, which was held last Saturday (May 26) from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
In other news, the Fort Frances Public Library will be conducting—by telephone—a needs assessment in June and July to determine what community expectations are when they use the library.
Volunteers are needed to conduct this survey. If anyone can spend a hour or two of their time to help out, it certainly would be appreciated. Contact Margaret Sedgwick at 274-9879.
Also at the end of June, a special date to note on your calendar is the annual “Teddy Bear’s Picnic.” Tickets are to go on sale soon so watch for details in the press, and elsewhere.
There will be many activities, including a children’s performer. So pack a lunch, bring a blanket and your favourite bear, and come down to the library for picnic time!
Donations of cupcakes would be appreciated. Anyone willing to bake cupcakes should contact the children’s department of the public library (274-9870).
Meanwhile, plans are underway for a dramatic reading, together with music, of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” in early December at St. Mary’s Church. More details will be given at our September meeting.
The Friends of the Library are very appreciative of any suggestions or ideas anyone might have. Please come to the meeting and share them with us, or put your ideas in writing, together with your name and address, and mark for the attention of: Friends of the Fort Frances Public Library.
The next meeting will be June 21.
