Janice Beazley, acting chair of the North West LHIN, announced yesterday that Tom Sarvas has been appointed to the board of directors.
Sarvas’ appointment by the Lieutenant Governor in Council was endorsed by the Health and Long-Term Care minister George Smitherman, and is effective as of April 2.
Sarvas is a chartered accountant and a partner in the firm Buset Sarvas LLP.
He brings to the LHIN more than 25 years of experience as an auditor for all types of not-for-profit social service- and health-related agencies and organizations.
He is a member of the board of directors of the George Jeffrey Children’s Centre as well as an active member of several professional organizations.
“We are pleased to welcome Tom Sarvas to our board,” said Beazley.
“Tom’s financial experience and years of community involvement will be invaluable to the LHIN as we work to achieve our vision: ‘Healthier People, A Strong Health System—Our Future.’”
The appointment of Sarvas brings the board of directors to eight of nine members. One vacancy recently was created with the departure of the chair, Dr. John Whitfield.
Directors are appointed by Order-In-Council for a term of one-three years, subject to a six-year maximum.
The North West LHIN is responsible for planning, integrating, and funding local health services, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, the community care access centre, community health centres, community support services, and mental health and addictions agencies.
