Local MPP Sarah Campbell is urging groups and individuals impacted by the 2012 Ontario budget to have their say.
As a result of ongoing budget negotiations, the Ontario NDP caucus successfully pushed for public hearings on the document, which was presented in March.
Hearings will be held June 6-8 and June 11-12.
While the committee reviewing the budget bill will not travel, it will allow testimony by phone in addition to written submissions.
“This is an important opportunity for groups and individuals affected by the budget to speak up,” said Campbell.
“As I’ve said before, this process is not over and we cannot let this important opportunity to have our voices heard pass us by,” she stressed.
Campbell said groups impacted or concerned by cuts to travel Information Centres, cuts to the Ministry of Natural Resources, the state of health care in the northwest, and the privatization of ServiceOntario or other programs or services should get involved in the process.
Although the Liberal government has indicated it may not proceed with the privatization of some public services, such as ServiceOntario, it is important for the public to weigh in on the issue and keep the pressure up.
Those interested in making submissions should contact Valerie Quioc Lim, clerk of the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs, by telephone at 1-416-325-7352, fax at 1-416-325-3505, or e-mail at email@example.com
You also can contact Campbell’s constituency offices in Fort Frances, Dryden, or Kenora.
