Council expected to call for byelection

Town council is expected to pass a bylaw to declare a byelection to fill the vacancy at its meeting tonight.

While council decided back on Oct. 3 to fill the vacancy by holding a byelection, this won’t be official until it passes a bylaw.

Once a byelection is declared, the town will set a date for a Nomination Day. Until that date, individuals are welcome to drop by the Civic Centre and pick up a nomination form.

A person may put their name forward to run four council by filing a nomination form with the clerk’s office in person or by an agent up until Nomination Day.

There is a $100 fee.

Election Day will be 45 days after Nomination Day.

The term of office is the remainder of the four-year term ending Nov. 30, 2010.

Tonight’s council meeting is scheduled to start at 6:25 p.m. It will be preceded by the committee of the whole at 5:30.

Other business at tonight’s meeting will include:

•a break-open ticket licence application from the Fort Frances Aquanauts at Sparky’s Confectionary from Oct. 23, 2007-April 23, 2008;
