The Fort Frances Chamber is putting together a new business directory, which it aims to have ready by the annual Home and Leisure show here on the first weekend of May.
Chamber manager Anthony Mason said the organization got the idea for the business directory after president Mark Caron returned from a Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce meeting last year with a directory for Kenora businesses.
“I thought it was a great idea, a great marketing tool, great for the business, and something the [local] Chamber could do for the businesses,” Mason noted.
He said the idea is to have all of the Chamber businesses listed in the directory, which also would include a day planner, event calendar, and information about the Chamber, and, in itself, provide an opportunity for advertising.
The directory would be distributed to hotels and motels, businesses, and the tourism information centre, as well as during the Home and Leisure show, the Chamber’s annual business awards, and at various conferences.
A total of 5,000 copies would be printed, with a new edition printed each year.
“The nice thing we’re going to do is it will all be done in Fort Frances—we’re having it printed and designed in Fort Frances, we’re having a local person go around for the Chamber to sell the ads to the businesses,” stressed Mason.
Of course, the directory will cost money to produce. As such, whether or not the project happens ultimately will depend on getting advertising.
The organization is working right now to get Chamber businesses on board, said Mason.
While Chamber members automatically will be listed in the directory regardless, Mason noted they can buy an ad “to maximize their exposure in the directory.”
As the directory is expected to be printed each year, returning ads will receive rebates.
The deadline to advertise is March 1.
The Chamber also is in the process of obtaining up-to-date information from its 160 or so member businesses to include in the directory.
“But if they want to take the initiative and phone us, that would be great,” hinted Mason.
