PART TIME CHEF

The Chef will order and prepare food for breakfast and lunch for the
students of Seven Generations Education Institute. The Chef will
determine the menu and ingredients and will ensure that they are
provided with the highest level of service. The Chef will handle special
menu requests and will be aware of any food allergies. The Chef will
ensure industry regulations and standards are adhered to and will enforce
the sanitary and safe food handling at all times. Other duties may be
assigned, as required.
JOB DUTIES:

  • Ensure consistent food preparation and the highest calibre of food

presentation and continually strive for improvement;

  • Menus shall be posted within Seven Generations Education Institute.
  • Ensure cleanliness and hygiene in the various kitchen areas which

includes refrigerators, storerooms and serving areas;

  • Ensure serving area’s food products are rotated to provide students

with the highest standard of freshness;

  • Ensure refrigerators and storerooms are organized and maintained on

a daily basis and that all food products are stored in accordance with
first-in-first-out and industry standards;

  • Supervise and participate in the production and plating of all food

service areas;

  • Develop and create recipes/menus for students, ensure consistent,

quality food service;

  • Order and/or assist in the inventory of food and beverage products to

ensure inventory levels are sufficient to meet our needs;

  • Assist and clean the areas where food is being consumed. All tables and

chairs need to be wiped down and any spills need to be cleaned;

  • Take proactive efforts to minimize waste and maximize quality;
  • Strive to advance knowledge, skills and abilities;
  • Respond in a positive and timely manner to all internal and external

requests and complaints, while meeting Seven Generations Education
Institute’s standards to exceed expectations;

  • Strive to uphold a safe working environment.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Culinary Education Certificate/Diploma, Red Seal or equivalent, preferred;
  • Certifications as required to comply with provincial regulations;
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate;
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Chef in a high volume environment;
  • Extensive knowledge of food handling and sanitation standards;
  • Understanding the maintenance of kitchen equipment;
  • Understanding of operational procedures and best practices;
  • Effective decision making, problem solving and conflict resolution skills;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Self-motivated, with a positive attitude and a consistent display of

professionalism;

  • Innovative, detail oriented, and quality conscious;
  • Ability to recognize, influence and follow food service trends in

preparation and presentation.
SALARY: TO BE NEGOTIATED.
LOCATION: Seven Generations Education Institute, Fort Frances, Ontario
PART TIME HOURS: Monday, Wednesday and Friday - 7:00a.m. until
2:00p.m. to a maximum of twenty-five (25) hours per week.
