Fort Frances Tribal Area Health Services Inc. is a corporation that
provides health care, mental health and addiction treatment services to
the 10 First Nations.
Position Summary:
The Zhingwaako Zaaga’ Igan First Nation (Lac La Croix) Community
Health Nurse reports to the Manager of Children’s Services &
Community Health. The Zhingwaako Zaaga’ Igan First Nation
Community Health Nurse coordinates and oversees all aspects of the
community-based public health program through health promotion
with individuals, families, groups, communities and populations. The
Community Health Nurse will act as a resource and advocate for all; to
promote the values, goals, and philosophy of FFTAHS.
Job Duties:

  • Provide direct community-based public health services to

Zhingwaako Zaaga’ Igan First Nation including weekly overnight stay
in provided accommodations;

  • Perform nursing skills within the RN scope of practice outlined by the

College of Nurses of Ontario;

  • Utilize leadership skills to identify and solve problems in the

Community Health program;

  • Liaise with other health care professionals and maintain good

relationships with Medical/Support/Family/Agency and general
public, and refer to appropriate agencies and service providers to
enhance the health of individuals, families groups and populations;

  • Teach, supervise and counsel the client and family members and

other members of the health care team, regarding the nursing care
needs and other related problems of the client;

  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments as indicated

within the Scope of Practice outlined by the College of Nurses
of Ontario;

  • Prepare clinical and/or progress notes and incorporate them into

the clinical record;

  • Apply and utilize key nursing knowledge and critical thinking to

choose options and to plan, implement and evaluate programs and
interventions to address health issues, taking into account relevant
evidence, legislation and regulations and policies;

  • Collect, assess, analyze and apply information from various data

sources to make evidence informed decisions for nursing services,
program planning, development and priority setting with individuals,
families, groups and communities.

  • A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a Canadian University

or recognized equivalent or a diploma in Nursing from a Canadian
or Canadian recognized institution with a diploma or certificate in
Community Health Nursing;

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario with

no restrictions;

  • Minimum of 1 year current experience in general nursing;
  • Solid knowledge of health care related legislation and practices;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Previous experience working with First Nations people is an asset;
  • Knowledge and understanding of Anishinaabe culture, teachings,

ceremony, and practices or an openness and willingness to learn;

  • Anishinaabemowin – ability to communicate effectively in Ojibway

an asset;

  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s “G” License with a good driving

record and be insurable;

  • Must successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference Check.
