Town of Atikokan


The Town of Atikokan is located in the heart of beautiful
Northwestern Ontario. Dubbed as “The Canoeing Capital of
Canada”, Atikokan is surrounded by thousands of lakes and rivers
and is the gateway to the world renowned Quetico Provincial Park.
We have a thriving population of 2,800 residents in a safe, healthy
community with a diverse economy, strong ties to the wilderness
and a creative spirit.
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, you will call upon your
experience and leadership capabilities to efficiently and effectively
manage the Public Works Department by developing strategic work
plans and implementing proper policies. As an exceptional leader,
communicator and administrator, you will plan, design, monitor,
construct and maintain municipal infrastructure. As an active
member of the senior management team, you will establish the
long-term direction for the department, in concert with the overall
goals of the corporation while communicating and recommending
changes, solutions, and concerns to the CAO and Council.
Qualifications you bring to the position include a minimum of
five years progressive experience in a municipal or construction
environment in addition to management experience. A Bachelor
of Science in Civil Engineering or a Diploma in Civil Engineering
is preferred. Experience with municipal road, water, and sewer
systems is essential. Along with a successful track record working
with elected and appointed officials, community stakeholders,
management and unions, the candidate should have a thorough
knowledge of current issues facing local government, and
particularly as they relate to the portfolio.
The Town of Atikokan offers excellent benefits and a competitive
