Summary of Position:
This is a full-time, permanent position. The Aboriginal FASD/
Child Nutrition Worker will work as part of interdisciplinary team
of professionals, under the direction of the Program Manager. The
Aboriginal FASD/Child Nutrition program provides services according to
the Ministry approved workplan for the Aboriginal FASD/Child Nutrition
program. Services include prevention, education and intervention

  • Develops program materials and supplies for parental education, drug

and alcohol abuse, FASD, and good nutrition;

  • Assist in the implementation of Nutrition programming, including

Breakfast programs in local and First Nation schools and day care centres;

  • Establish and deliver support groups and parenting classes in the

First Nation communities, the Métis Association and the United Native
Friendship Centre;

  • Provide screening services using the Nippissing Tools to screen

children 0-6, to aid parents in ascertaining the developmental level
of their child and work with parents regarding their child’s
developmental level;

  • Provide one to one support to children and families with

developmental and learning issues;

  • Provide pre-natal and birth planning support to expecting mothers

and their families

  • ECE, DSW or college diploma in a related field;
  • Minimum of three years experience working in a social services field;
  • Knowledge and background in nutrition, child development, prenatal

and postnatal care;

  • An ability to work closely and effectively as a member of a team;
  • Experience working with First Nations people and communities;
  • Ability to speak Ojibway language is a definite asset;
  • Basic data collection and computer skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours;
  • Access to a vehicle and valid Ontario driver’s license.
