Aboriginal Health Educator
Summary of Position:
The Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access Centre is currently accepting
applications for an Aboriginal Health Educator. This position is
a permanent full-time position, to begin in January 2019. The
Aboriginal Health Educator will act part of the interdisciplinary team
and work closely with the Diabetes Team and Registered Dietician.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• The Aboriginal Health Educator will work to:
• Increase community awareness of the seriousness of chronic
diseases, their risk factors, complications, and potential strategies
for prevention of complications.
• Improve understanding about healthy lifestyle choices and to
promote better self-management behaviors among Aboriginal
individuals and their families.
• Introduce healthy eating and active lifestyle options in the
Aboriginal communities, organizations, and schools.
• Establish support groups for Aboriginals and their families to lead
healthy eating and active living initiatives.
• Support smoking cessation and prevention activities
• These objectives will be achieved through providing communitybased programming including fitness instruction, nutritional
information, dangers of tobacco, promotion of smoking cessation,
diabetes prevention, workshops and promotion of healthy
eating and active living to children and their families, as well as
coordination of events related to Health Lifestyles.
Qualifications:
• College or university diploma in health education or a related field.
• Certified Fitness Instructor (preferred) or experience in delivering
fitness instruction
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience in health education and
promotion or a related field.
• Willingness to work evenings or weekends as required.
• Proof of a valid Ontario Driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
Desired:
• Fluency in the Ojibwe language a definite asset
• Prior experience working with aboriginal people
• Current CPR certification

Preamble
Fort Frances Tribal Area Health Services Inc. is a corporation that
provides health care, mental health and addiction treatment
services to the 10 First Nations.
Position Summary
As a member of the Mino Ayaa Ta Win Services Team, the Mino
Ayaa Ta Win Residential Treatment and Medically Supervised
Detox Counsellor is responsible for providing individual and group
counselling to persons detoxifying from drug and/or alcohol
addiction. The Mino Ayaa Ta Win Counsellor provides counselling
support and supervision to the Mino Ayaa Ta Win Program clients.
Job Duties
• Facilitates evening programs;
• Maintains daily records, case notes, and logs;
• Weekend cooking and cleaning;
• Counsels clients, individually and in groups, to assist in
overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life and making life
changes;
• Provides crisis counselling and supervision to individuals in
intense detox phase;
• Works closely with Group Facilitator/Case Manager to ensure
continuity of treatment plans;
• Ensures culturally safety in programming;
• Assists the Facilitator/Case Managers, when required, in
conducting client assessments, determining client’s mental and
physical condition, making ancillary assessment requests and
preparing client treatment plan;
• Works with Case Managers to plan client discharge and to
implement follow-up.
Qualifications
• 2 year post-secondary degree in Social Work or related field and
five years previous counselling experience or an acceptable
combination of both;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Must possess a Valid Ontario driver’s “G” license, have a good
driving record, be insurable, and have a willingness to upgrade
license for group van travel;
• Must be proficient in word processing and have computer usage
experience;
• Anishinaabemowin – Ability to communicate effectively in
Ojibway a definite asset.
• Experience working with First Nations people in a First Nation
community and/or First Nation organization.
• Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s “G” License, have a good
driving record and be insurable.
• Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture, practices and norms or an
openness and willingness to learn to carry out all job related
functions
• The successful applicant must be able to provide a clear
Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check
• Will be required to partake in drug testing.

Township on the proposal within 45 calendar days from the date

If concerns arise regarding this project, which cannot be resolved
in discussion with the Township, a person or party may request that
the Minister of Environment and Climate Change to order a change
in the project status and require a higher level of assessment under
individual Environmental Assessment process (referred to as a Part
II Order). Reasons must be provided for the request. Requests must
be received by the Minister within 45 Calendar days of the Notice.
A copy of the request must also be sent to the Township. If there
are no requests received by February 1, 2019, the bridge structure
will proceed to design and construction as presented.

The Fort Frances Times is published weekly on Wednesday while
the Fort Frances Daily Bulletin is published Monday, Tuesday and
Thursday. The Fort Frances Daily Bulletin serves the immediate
community area of Fort Frances while the Fort Frances Times
serves the entire Rainy River District.

Fort Frances is situated in Ontario on the US border with a sister
community International Falls MN. The town is approximately
half way between Thunder Bay and Winnipeg. It is within three
hours of large Minnesota cities. The community living on a lake

hunting and outdoor recreation opportunities.
Qualifications
A journalism degree or diploma is an asset or the study of
English writing. Experience with Adobe InDesign would be a
definite asset, although training will be provided, if necessary.
Writing responsibilities generally revolve around 10 to 15
stories per week on a variety of subjects, with individual beats
to be defined after the start date. Must be able to take quality
photographs. The successful applicant will also be required
to take digital photos and share the layout duties for both
publications.
A reliable vehicle is required, as is the ability to work flexible
hours.
Potential applicants should have a natural curiosity about life,
people, and the communities in which they live and work.

The Town of Fort Frances wishes to obtain proposals from
a reputable consulting fi rm to complete a study on the redevelopment
of the Shevlin Wood Yard and former Resolute
Forest Products’ nursing station (hereon referred to as
Gateway to Market Square). The project is to be conducted
through consultation with local stakeholders, the economic
development offi ce and Mayor and Council. The purpose of
this study is to evaluate how the properties can be best used
to maximize its economic potential. The study will analyze the
site and the surrounding environment to understand which
investments are appropriate and the steps that are needed to
attract that investment.
This study will involve all appropriate and relevant stakeholders,
such as the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, FedNor,
the Rainy River Future Development Corporation (RRFDC), and
the Town of Fort Frances to develop an acceptable plan. Five (5)
Sealed Proposals clearly marked shall be submitted to:
